My name is Juan Pablo Ramirez. I was born in Bogota, Colombia. I was a professional tennis player and because of it I grew up traveling around the world. Seeing different cultures and ways of living has always been captivating to me. I am curious about people and their behavior. I like to compare the diverse lifestyles people have and how those affect, or benefit the world we live in. It is extremely important for me to listen and pay attention to everything that is around me before I shoot. I believe this is the only way I can show the dignity and the human side of people in my art.
In 2015, I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a journalism degree. During my college career, I worked for some of the most prestigious newspapers in the state of Minnesota, such as the StarTribune and the Pioneer Press, with most of my work focused on photography. Even though I had a great experience as a photojournalist, I was missing the freedom to work in my own projects and for that reason, in 2016, I decided to move to Dubai.
In May 2017, one of the images won first place at the Toil & Tinker photo contest at the Photography Live Fair in Dubai.
On October 24th, 2017, I showcased four of my -Streets of Stories, U.E.A- images at The Cube Gallery, in Central Park Towers in Dubai.
In February 2018, Light Foot Travel agency published an article about my project on their online magazine
In May 2018, thirty four of my photographs where exhibited at the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Brazil at the “Religion Tolerance in the U.A.E” show.
In August 2018, twelve of my photographs where exhibited at the The Empty Quarter Gallery in Dubai
In March 2019, eleven photos of my my long term project “The People From The Other Side” were exhibited during the Art Night Festival at the Dubai International Financial Center, in Dubai
